Character Playlist: Violet Baudelaire
In the midst of my re-read of The Series of Unfortunate Events, I though it was fitting to choose one of the Baudelaire orphans to make a playlist for this week. I chose the oldest Baudelaire orphan, Violet, who is actually probably my favorite! When I read the books in middle school, I always admired when she tied up her hair to invent something to get her and her siblings out of whatever unfortunate situation they have found themselves in.
"That's Not How the Story Goes" from the Netflix Series
Most people have the notion that a children's story should be happy and full of joy--but that's not true for any of the Baudelaires.
"Things We Lost in the Fire" by Bastille
The fire at her house is what causes Violet and her brother and sister to become orphans in the first place.
"Everything's Not Lost" by Coldplay
Through all of the misfortune, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny still have each other.
"A Smart Kid" by Porcupine Tree
Due to the nurturing by her parents, Violet is a pretty smart girl; one who is often able to think up a way to get them out of sticky situations with Olaf.
"Prey" by The Neighbourhood
Despite their attempts to reveal Count Olaf, the Baudelaires always find themselves becoming his prey.
"Shelter" by The xx
One of Violet's only goals is to be able to find shelter and a safe home for her and her siblings.
"The Violet Hour" by The Civil Wars
Violet always finds herself in an hour of danger, but is somehow able to save her and her siblings just in the nick of time.
"Doubt" by Twenty One Pilots
As one unfortunate thing happens after another, Violet begins to have doubt that her and her siblings will ever find happiness and safety again.
"You Are a Memory" by Message to Bears
Their parents are just a memory, a memory that drives them to survive each unfortunate situation they find themselves in.
"The Light Behind Your Eyes" by My Chemical Romance
Despite it all, Violet still has hope that her and Klaus and Sunny will make it through, together.
